Hours per week (average): 40 (full time)

This includes “Leadership Journeys,” which focus on equipping mid-career women with tools, along with peer, mentor and coach support, to successfully use their voice, expertise and leadership for impact. It includes pushing conversations and partnerships with senior leaders in health institutions, taking steps to prioritize gender equality. It also includes supporting/ convening global conversations about the importance of women’s leadership, amplifying the voices of national and global health leaders including at the bi-annual WomenLift Health Conference.

Position Summary

WomenLift Health is seeking an experienced, innovative and dynamic MEL Lead to oversee our organization’s overall approach and activities for monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL). This position will be responsible for developing and managing the MEL plan, learning agenda, as well as design and implementation of the MEL processes working closely with colleagues across WomenLift Health. In close collaboration with our external MEL partners, they will also lead on the gathering, analysis, and reporting of data and the integration of feedback and adjustments into program planning and implementation. We are looking for a creative leader with superior communication skills who brings a strategic, analytical, and innovative approach to the work. Reporting to the WomenLift Health President, this individual must thrive in a dynamic and creative work environment, be a self-starter and a passionate change agent for advancing women’s leadership.

Responsibilities and Tasks

  • In close collaboration with the President, senior leaders, and MEL partners, implement, refine and further develop WomenLift Health’s existing monitoring, evaluating, learning strategy including selecting and defining indicators, setting targets for all indicators, planning data collection activities, analyzing data to measure the results of interventions and achievement of WomenLift’s strategic objectives.
  • Develop and support the design and implementation of continuous and annual evaluations, surveys and other components of the monitoring and evaluation system.
  • Work with senior management and leadership development teams to ensure that learning is applied, and activities are adapted, as needed, for innovative and effective programming.
  • Develop high-quality quantitative and qualitative methods and participatory methodologies to build WomenLift Health as a learning and evidence-based organization.
  • Work with partners to ensure application of high-quality MEL activities and data collection.
  • Communicate information obtained through MEL activities to the WomenLift Health team and partners.
  • Regularly review data collection processes, perform data quality assessments, and adjust as needed.
  • Develop annual MEL plans, reports and knowledge products in collaboration with WomenLift health senior leadership and our MEL partners.
  • Oversee creation of knowledge products in collaboration with MEL partners and work closely with the communications team to manage broad dissemination of the same for enhancing WomenLift's visibility and credibility.

Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Ability   

  • Master's degree required in international development, economics, public policy, public health or related fields
  • 8+ years of full-time MEL experience, preferably in an area related to gender equality, women’s leadership and/or global health.
  • Strong analytical skillset and ability to make data-driven decisions.
  • A highly strategic and innovative leader who is self-motivated and seeks and identifies opportunities to advance WomenLift Health’s goals.
  • Superb writing and editing skills with rigorous attention to detail.
  • Highly organized and a critical, creative thinker under pressure.
  • Proactive, self-starter able to work independently and across cultures.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate and communicate with diverse team members and external partners.
  • Proven ability to thrive in an entrepreneurial environment that requires initiative, flexibility, ingenuity, resilience and commitment
  • May require up to 5% travel

  • Additional languages are a plus but not required.
