Type: Fully Remote with travel to in-person meetings and events

Reports to: Communications and Engagement Director 

Hours per week (average): 40 (full-time)

WomenLift Health envisions a world where diverse, accomplished leaders collectively transform health outcomes. To realize that vision, we seek to expand the power and influence of talented mid-career women in health and engage with senior institutional and societal leaders to catalyze systemic change for gender equality in health leadership. We work in East Africa, India, North America, and Southern Africa and continue to explore outreach to other regions. 

Work  

Established in 2019, we work to advance gender equality in health leadership through a range of actions at the individual, institutional, and societal levels. This includes “Leadership Journeys,” which focus on equipping mid-career women with tools, strategies and peer, mentor and coach support, to successfully use their voice, expertise and leadership for impact. We initiate dialogue and partnerships with senior leaders in health institutions taking steps to prioritize gender equality. Our work also includes convening global conversations about the importance of women’s leadership, amplifying the voices of national and global health leaders including at the bi-annual WomenLift Health Conference.

Position Summary 

WomenLift Health is seeking an experienced, innovative and dynamic Communications Lead to develop and drive an integrated brand and content strategy across all platforms. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and overseeing editorial, copyediting and stakeholder management with a focus on driving engagement and action among our key stakeholders as well as building broad brand recognition and credibility.  We are looking for a creative leader with a superior editorial skillset who also brings a strategic, analytical, creative and innovative approach to the work. Reporting to the WomenLift Health Communication and Engagement Director, this individual must thrive in a dynamic and creative work environment, be a self-starter and a passionate change agent for advancing women’s leadership.  

Responsibilities and Tasks  

  • Create and execute an integrated content strategy for WomenLift Health across platforms, that supports the organization’s objectives and drives engagement with key audiences.  
  • Conceptualize and produce editorial guides that inform our organisation’s tone and voice while understanding  and consistently reflecting the brand voice of the organisation in writing style.
  • Support our content writing initiatives by editing and working with internal and external stakeholders  to deliver quality content for diverse channels
  • Translate complex health, leadership and science jargon to actionable communication outputs for a diverse pool of audiences and stakeholders. 
  • Support in the organisations story telling agenda
  • Lead the review of our content across website, social media platforms, email newsletters, and branded content. Ensure it is on message, differentiated and resonates with target audiences.  
  • Collaborate with country/regional counterparts as the program rolls out geographically to optimize contextual impact while telling a consistent and compelling global narrative. 
  • Identify and facilitate new content opportunities, exploring ways to repurpose existing content in the WomenLift Health repository to position the brand’s thought leadership. 
  • Generate fresh, creative ideas for initiatives and campaigns across channels, and work with cross regional teams and agency to execute on them. 
  • Drive participation in WomenLift Health-hosted events through creative content and promotional strategies.  
  • Translate relevant trends/news and develop responses that are authentic and appropriate for WomenLift Health, advancing an overall communications strategy. 
  • Manage freelance writers and editors, as well as video content producers, and assign prioritized content projects.  
  • Review the quality of team members’ content to ensure it aligns with the WomenLift Health brand/tone-of-voice and messaging. 
  • Bring a strong data analytics capability and Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) commitment to the work to help inform and adjust the strategy, as needed.  
  • Set short- and long-term goals and measure effectiveness of the content on a monthly, quarterly and yearly basis.  

Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Ability    

  • Bachelor's degree, Master's degree preferred in communications, public relations, journalism or other related field. 
  • 10+ years of full-time content development and/or editorial experience preferably in an area related to gender equality, women’s leadership and/or global health. With at least 5 years of experience in a Senior Lead role.
  •  Strong analytical skill set and ability to make data-driven decisions. 
  • A highly strategic and innovative leader who is self-motivated and seeks and identifies opportunities to advance WomenLift Health’s goals. 
  • Ability to manage through ambiguity, establish process and structure to help the team operate more effectively and efficiently. 
  • Superb writing and editing skills with rigorous attention to detail. 
  • Excellent project management skills 
  • Highly organized and a critical, creative thinker under pressure. 
  • Proactive, self-starter able to work independently. 
  • An ability to cultivate team members and effectively collaborate with team members and external partners. 
  • Proven ability to thrive in an entrepreneurial environment that requires initiative, flexibility, ingenuity, resilience and commitment.
  • May require up to 15% travel 

Valued and Non-Essential Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Ability  

  • Additional languages are a plus but not required.
